Mercedes-Benz to Enter Pickup Market

Mercedes-Benz announced today their intention to enter the mid-size (one-tonne) pickup market.

“We see opportunities to enter this market as the first premium brand,”  Volker Mornhinweg, head of Mercedes-Benz Vans said, but failed to go into much more detail about the truck.

They are planning to launch their “rough luxury” utility in multiple countries across Europe and South America, as well as South Africa and Australia. Curiously, Mornhinweg has so far been coy on details of a US launch.

There have previously been rumours that Audi would launch a truck based on the Volkswagen Groups successful Amarok, which they have denied to date, but with todays announcement from Benz we don’t imaging it will be long before the engineers over in Ingolstadt let a concept four-ringed pickup loose.
